The CAMP BY PARENTS FOR PARENTS
Ryen Smith is the director of Lego STEAM. Ryen is well know throughout the New Castle area running Lego camps for various schools and camps. Students will be applying laws of engineering and architecture as they design and build bridges, buildings, catapults, pyramids and cars. The concepts of friction, gravity, torque and scale will be used in designing these structures.

Be prepared with all pertinent information prior to starting online registration. New for this year is that Sanford Camps will not accept any walk-in registrations and your child will not be able to attend the first day of camp if all paperwork is not received by the camp at least a week prior to that first day.
NEW - Boys Lacrosse
Sean Tischler will be the coach for our boys lacrosse program. Sean has been associated with lacrosse, both as a player and coach, for over 25 years. He was a 4 year starter in goal at East Stroudsburg University. Since then he has been the head Varsity coach at Sun Valley and Kennett High schools. He is presently the defensive coordinator at Williamson College. He is also the travel team coach for the Black Bear Lacrosse club. The lacrosse camp will be stressing fundamentals and skill development for all who attend.
Camp lunch is available at additional cost ($35/week) for either day camp or sport/specialty camps. Campers can choose from a tasty menu of hot or cold sandwiches and healthy salads. We provide a drink and dessert. Many children bring their lunch from home, in which case a beverage of juice or milk is served by courtesy of the camp.
Barb Colasante will be the coach for our girls lacrosse program. Barbara played lacrosse at Temple University. During her four-year playing career at Temple, Barb helped lead the Owls to NCAA Final Four appearances. She graduated in 1997 as a two-time Division One All-American as well as Defensive Player of the Year. She has coached all levels from elementary to varsity.The lacrosse camp will be stressing fundamentals and skill development for all who attend.

Jennifer Kelman, Lower School Music Instructor and Choral Director at Sanford School, will be running a week long Musical Theater Camp. During this week long camp, campers will learn music and choreography to songs from past and present Broadway shows. Campers will play improvisation and theater games that will guide them in writing a short script to go along with their production numbers for the performance on Friday! This camp does not require an audition, anyone who loves to perform is welcome to join!
Jillian DeFina is out new field hockey coach. Jillian is a teacher and coach at Archmere Academy. Jillian comes to Sanford Camps with over 15 years of experience. She played college ball for Neumann University where she was selected as First team CSAC. She was also the team captain. Jillian will be teaching the basic of field hockey which will include multiple drills and scrimmages.The field hockey camp will introduce players to stick work skills, passing, offensive and defensive concepts, game play and rules. Skill development will be taught through drill and small game play.
Once you register through our online system, you can access your account anytime to make payments or update camper information. Through this system we keep in touch with email reminders such as what to bring for camp, or to announce field trips. We also have a shortened sport program of Junior Soccer Shots for children ages 4-6 for half-day instruction, and you can add a half-day of day camp to round out your child's summer fun!
NEW - Baseball Hitting Camp
Salesianum head baseball coach Ted Godfrey will be running our hitting camp. Ted has been a coach for 18 years and has been coaching at Salesianum since 2010. He was voted High School Baseball Coach of the Year in 2011. Ted's camp will be focusing on the mechanical basics of hitting: stance, grip, stride and swing. This is a great camp to improve your son or daughter's hitting.
Karen Piacentino, Director of Computer Kids Club has joined us this summer. Students will design a MINECRAFT city, animate STARWARS characters, learn beginning CODING with MINECRAFT & MOANA. Girls design a SLIDESHOW about the colonial days with AMERICAN GIRL characters. We will teach how to type properly, play educational MATH activities and engage in ENGINEERING fun! Students learn GRAPHIC Design skills, editing pixels, learning art tools and design a project while we learn the Microsoft programs. Experience AWESOME! Space is limited, so register early.
Michele Buglio, former Miss Delaware candidate andowner of Dance HDC will run this program for us from her studio. Students will learn how to “strut their stuff” on the runway! Campers will meet with the buyer from NV Boutique to learn about what the new fashion trends will be for 2018. They will then design their own clothing and accessories, enjoy makeovers and perform in a fashion show.
Deerfield’s own Mike Tobiason will run the golf program and comes with a great reputation for working with youth. Mornings will be spent at Deerfield Golf Course under the supervision of Mike and his staff. Players will learn the fundamentals of a correct golf swing and will also receive training in specialty shots. By playing on a real golf course the players will learn about course management. Afternoons will be spent at a local driving range. Appropriate dress code required and bring your own clubs.
Quarterback and Receivers
Bill DiNardo, head varsity football coach at Salesianum School will run our q-backs and receivers camp again. Bill has won multiple state championships for both Middletown and Salesianum schools. Coach Bill is also theDean of Students at Salesianum. For the quarterback and receivers camp, Bill and his staff will be emphasizing the basics of throwing and receiving a football. Quarterbacks will be drilled in center exchange, faking, running, and passing techniques. Receivers will be taught how to receive the ball using proper hand position and eye contact as well as running basic pass routes.
This year our volleyball camp will be headed by Gina Trinsey, the director and coach at Brandywine Valley Volleyball Club since 1996. She is a certified volleyball coach and is currently the Camp instructor for Kutztown University volleyball team, having done so since 1998. Closer to home, Gina has coached at St. Mary Magdalen, The Charter School of Wilmington, Wilmington Friends School and Concord High School. Players will be taught the fundamentals of serving, passing, setting and spiking. Teamwork around the net will be emphasized. Players can expect a good workout from Gina and her staff every day.
Boys and Girls Basketball
Both the boy’s and the girl’s basketball programs will be under the direction of Stan Waterman, head boy’s basketball coach at Sanford School since 1991. Under Stan’s direction Sanford won multiple state championships. Stan played point guard at the University of Delaware and is theDean of Students at Sanford. He is considered to be an outstanding teacher of youth. Stan utilizes both courts of the sports center to set up stations for dribbling, passing, jump shooting and foul shooting. The afternoons are used for small team play, 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, etc. By the end of the week all players are participating in full team scrimmages.
Soccer Shots™ Co-ed and Junior Soccer Shots™
Soccer camp will be offered through Soccer Shots™, a leader inyouth soccer development in the DE and PA area under the direction of Kevin Schneider, who is theDirector of Soccer Shots for the state of Delaware. Players will be taught the fundamentals of dribbling, shooting and passing. Mornings will consist of skill sessions and afternoons will be occupied with competitive games and scrimmages. There will be a half-day session for ages 4-7; and a full day session for children 8 years old and older.
Girls Dance TV
Michelle Buglio has been our dance teacher for over five years; she is also the owner of Dance HDC at the Shoppes at Louviers. Michele’s enthusiasm and energy should result in an exciting camp for your child. All dancers will be transported in the morning to a professional dance studio for their dance instruction. Campers will recreate an age appropriate and popular music video, with costumes, choreography and video editing.
Co-ed Cross Country
Mike Holloway will be the head coach for our cross country camp. Mike is a former counselor for Sanford Camps, and he coached the Varsity x-country program at Sanford School for 11 years before moving to Colorado. While in Colorado, Mike started a running program for lower and middle school children. Currently, Mike is the Varsity x-country head coach at Tower Hill. Mike will be teaching the basics of running to our campers and help his athletes to improve their skill while adopting a love for running. Mornings will be spent on training and running the new course, the afternoons will involve conditioning and games for endurance.

The seven-week 2018 season for Sport/Specialty Camps begins Monday, June 17th this year, and the last day of Sport/Specialty Camps is Friday, August 23rd. Camp will be closed on Thursday, July 4th. The sport/specialty camp day begins at 8:45 a.m. and ends 3:15 p.m. Some sport/specialty camps are half day sessions ending at 11:30 a.m. and you can add a half day of day camp as an option. We offer the same extended day care services for sport camp attendees as we do for the day campers.
The ten-week 2019 season for Day Camp begins Monday, June 17th this year, and the last day of camp is Friday, August 23rd. Camp will be closed on Thursday, July 4th. The camp day begins at 8:45 a.m. and ends 3:15 p.m. We understand the needs of working parents so we also offer extended day care mornings and afternoons for an additional fee.
